- Public Online Lecture: The Sacredness of Forests and Lakes in Northern Bali: Landscape Concepts in the Dispute Concerning Tourism Development in a Nature Recreation Area

Das Institut für Ethnologie lädt alle Interessierten zum Institutskolloquium am 8. Dezember 2020 ein. Eingeladen als Gastreferentin ist Sophie Strauß, M.A. vom Institut für Ethnologie der Universität Göttingen.
Die Veranstaltungsreihe »Institutskolloquium« gibt Lehrenden, Mitarbeiter*innen und Doktorand*innen die Möglichkeit, ihre Forschungsinteressen, -ansätze, und -ideen, aber auch ihre Fragen vorzutragen und zu diskutieren.
Das Vortragsthema: »The Sacredness of Forests and Lakes in Northern Bali. Landscape concepts in the dispute concerning tourism development in a nature recreation area in Northern Bali, Indonesia«.

»The presentation will give insights into the tug-of-war, which arose at the emergence of two tourism investment projects in a nature recreation park in Northern Bali (Indonesia), which is sacred to the Hindu-Balinese people. Based on long-term ethnographic studies in a multi-sited field between 2009 and 2016, the presentation will sketch the landscape concepts used as key arguments in the dispute. The Balinese space order provided potent arguments both to ward off and to promote tourism investment in the said nature recreation park.«
